The Basic Computer Skills course is applicable for beginners with little to no computer experience. You're probably sitting in front of a computer right now. But what exactly is it? And what can you do with it? What is a computer? A computer is a machine for communicating with people and working with information. What can you do with a computer? A lot! Talk to friends; find entertainment; talk to family; search for jobs; go shopping; organize information; pay bills; make appointments; create documents; read news; contact potential employers. That's really just the beginning. Once you get started, you will find more ways to use computers every day! If you want a computer to do something, you have to control the computer with a mouse, keyboard, touchpad, or touchscreen. A keyboard lets you type words or numbers, or use command keys to control the computer. A mouse or touchpad lets you point at something on your computer screen. The keyboard has a lot of buttons, called keys. Most of the keys are letters and numbers. Understanding these is easy! You just press the key for the letter you want to put on the screen. A mouse has fewer buttons than a keyboard, but those few buttons can do a lot. Some functions are: hovering, mouse pointers, clicking, double clicking, dragging, right clicking, and scrolling. Learn how to create files and folders on a computer that can help your organizational skills. There are many changes you can make to how a computer looks and works to make it easier for you to use. You can connect to different internet sources; turn the volume up, down, or off; change the computer's settings for how it looks or operates; and make updates to the computer's software. You can connect a computer to different internet sources. From turning on a computer to shutting it down, this course is sure to elevate your computer knowledge.
